(Europe) Pascale Assémat, Chief Data Officer of the Consumer and Digital Branch at Le Groupe La Poste, speaks with Kensu CEO Eleanor Treharne Jones in a video interview about the responsibility and the expectations regarding data quality.
Assémat believes the IT and business sides are responsible for different aspects of data quality. Conversations with the IT team should focus more on the daily impact on operations, issues related to data pipelines, data quality, etc. On the other hand, the business team does not care about pipelines; they only look at the output. Assémat maintains that both sides must work together to deliver accurate data to find solutions. She adds that data leaders must understand the impact of the lack of data quality on each team and address the subject with them.
Assemat also emphasizes the importance of having data quality tools, monitoring pipelines, and distributing responsibilities between the IT department, the business team, and the data providers. She stresses the need to make the roles, responsibilities, and expectations clear to everyone from the beginning.
Assémat explains that data quality also depends on the use cases. Volume may not be critical in one use case but of particular value in another. Data quality means nothing without putting it into context, she notes. The context and the expected output can help define the controls to be implemented.
CDO Magazine thanks Pascale Assémat for sharing her insights and data success stories with our global community.
