Visa has unveiled Visa Intelligent Commerce, a new platform designed to let AI agents not only recommend products but also complete purchases on behalf of users — ushering in a new era of AI-powered shopping.
Announced at Visa’s Global Product Drop event in San Francisco, the platform enables consumers to delegate shopping tasks to trusted AI agents with robust security and customizable controls. “Soon, people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase, and manage commerce on their behalf,” said Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer.
The system replaces traditional card numbers with tokenized digital credentials that authorized AI systems can access securely. Consumers can define exactly how their AI agents operate — by setting spending limits, restricting purchases from certain merchant categories, or requiring real-time transaction approvals.
Visa is emphasizing trust and security as the platform rolls out. The system integrates the company’s industry-leading fraud prevention tools, which blocked $40 billion in attempted fraud last year, and adds new layers of identity verification for AI agents and real-time fraud monitoring.
With AI-ready cards and a privacy-first design, Visa Intelligent Commerce aims to deliver the convenience of automation without compromising user control or data security.
