The U.S. Department of the Air Force (DAF) has unveiled a new platform designed to boost transparency around its artificial intelligence and machine learning projects within the department.

Called CLARA, the platform was announced by the Department of Air Force Chief Information Office’s LinkedIn page. It is a new tool designed to enhance visibility and understanding of artificial intelligence initiatives across the Department.

“CLARA aims to provide a centralized platform for sharing information, tracking progress, and fostering collaboration on AI projects, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and aligned in their efforts to advance the Department's AI capabilities,” the post said.

“Every warfighter deserves clarity on the tools and capabilities at their disposal. Transparent access to our resources ensures everyone is more equipped and ready to excel in any mission,” Acting DAF Chief Data and AI Officer Chandra Donelson said in a statement.

The department has been undertaking numerous AI-related projects. In June, it introduced a novel experimental GenAI chatbot dubbed NIPRGPT.

The chatbot is designed to respond to inquiries and aid in various tasks including correspondence, background papers, and coding, all within a secure computing environment.

"NIPRGPT is a critical bridge to ensure we get the best tools we have into our team's hands while larger commercial tools are navigating our intense security parameters and other processes,” said Alexis Bonnell, AFRL Chief Information Officer.
