US Cyber Command Unveils AI Task Force for Tech Integration
U.S. Cyber Command has established a task force dedicated to harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) in pinpointing promising technologies for widespread integration. The aim of the task force is to swiftly adopt and procure AI systems, applications, and the requisite data infrastructure for cyber operations forces.
“USCYBERCOM has developed an AI roadmap and is working to apply AI in cybersecurity to better identify and close vulnerabilities across Department of Defense networks,” Gen. Timothy Haugh, Commander of USCYBERCOM, said while speaking at the Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats.
The task force prioritizes furnishing AI capabilities for the command's cyber mission force, enhancing integration with operations; preparing for AI adoption by tackling policy and standards for ethical application; and countering AI threats in coordination with NSA-led efforts.
Earlier this year, DoD improved its ability to deploy new technologies, particularly AI due to key organizational and strategy updates, according to Michael C. Horowitz, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Development and Emerging Capabilities.
"If you imagine, essentially, a continuum of activities from science and technology investments all the way to fielding capabilities, this administration within the Department of Defense has launched new initiatives at each place, essentially, in the continuum," Horowitz reportedly said.
He pointed to the establishment of the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, tasked with overseeing the department's comprehensive integration of data.
Additionally, he referenced increased DoD investments in research, development, test and evaluation, and new initiatives aimed at accelerating experimentation across the department.
