The Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) is awarding the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)  a $23 million investment to modernize its outdated case management system with a modern cloud-based solution.

Modernizing the system is expected to drastically improve the agency’s ability to protect workers’ rights and process labor disputes efficiently.

In a blog post, the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA) said that NLRB's 17-year-old system has caused a range of problems, such as delays in handling cases, decreased reliability of data, and heightened cybersecurity risks, impacting its ability to provide justice for workers and resolution for employers.

In 2023, the NLRB processed over 22,000 cases and recovered more than $56 million for workers.

This modernization initiative will focus on improving e-filing capabilities, streamlining the submission of labor-related documents for greater efficiency, and enhancing public access to crucial information and case statuses.

The system upgrade will also enable advanced data analytics, allowing the NLRB to detect trends, make informed decisions, and allocate resources more effectively.

Additionally, the new system will be designed for scalability, ensuring that the NLRB can easily adapt to future technological advancements and changing labor landscape requirements.

“This investment in the NLRB’s technological capabilities represents our commitment to making government digital services more efficient and effective for workers and the general public. By providing the tools for faster case processing and improved data management, we’re empowering the NLRB to better serve the American workforce and uphold the principles of fair labor practices,” Larry Bafundo, TMF Executive Director, said.
