Conrad Stosz who previously served as the Director of AI at the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has permanently moved to the National Institute of Science and Technology’s (NIST) AI Safety Institute (AISI) as the Head of Policy.
Stosz joined the NIST AISI on a temporary assignment in April; however, he announced that the position became full-time through a recent LinkedIn post.
“Thrilled to share that I have started a new position as Head of Policy for the U.S. AI Safety Institute in the Department of Commerce, wrapping two wonderful years leading on federal AI policy from the White House Office of Management and Budget. What started out as a temporary assignment to the AISI has officially become a full-time gig,” Stosz said.
“I am also tremendously grateful to have had this opportunity over the last two years to help shape the U.S. response to recent advances in AI, including the chance to help shape Executive Order 14110 and its implementation,” he added.
Stosz joined the OMB in July 2022 as a policy advisor. Early next year, he was promoted to director of AI at the White House, where he led the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts on critical technology initiatives, including the October 2023 AI Executive Order and the March 2024 AI guidance for federal agencies.
