When other florists won’t tackle difficult or unusual requests, Teresa Messer, owner of Fig Tree Florist and Gifts, is happy to save the day. "Our trademark style is taking on those projects that other florists just won’t touch," she says.

For the recent wedding of Elizabeth Schultheiss, Fig Tree rose to the top of the list of several florists she interviewed because of the personal attention she received. "We didn’t feel like just another number. We felt that we would get the best product with Fig Tree, and Teresa really put us at ease." 

Messer, who took over the business in 2000, says her foray into the floral industry has been a learning process, but one she has loved. "I saw an opportunity to have the American dream. While at times it’s been hard, it is also very rewarding."

In fact, Messer says what she loves most about her job is the way she’s able to make her brides and families feel. "It’s the excitement and tears of joy from the brides and families when I deliver my flowers. That’s what keeps me going."

Schultheiss appreciates that Messer worked hard to help her and fiancé Justin through the selection process. "We weren’t familiar with flower types and prices," she says, "but we explained our vision to Teresa and she sat down with us and went over options from books and available products in her store to help us visualize ideas."

Messer also scores points with this couple for maximizing the options within their budget. "She really helped guide us into making our vision a reality while staying within our price range," Schultheiss says, "It was a pleasure to work with Teresa and Fig Tree." 

The Schultheisses made the right choice. "Everything turned out great," she says. "The flowers were stunning, and even more beautiful than we could have imagined, perfect for a winter wedding, and they really tied everything together. We were so pleased."
