Archbishop McNicholas High School promotes a Christ-centered, coed Catholic community that embraces each student spiritually, intellectually, morally and physically. McNicholas helps students of all abilities achieve excellence. Personalized registration and class selection process allows students and parents to select course levels appropriate to a student’s ability in each subject. McNicholas prides itself in equipping students to excel academically. The proof is in the numbers. In the past decade, 40 students have been named National Merit Scholarship Competition semifinalists or finalists, and more than 70 have been named commended students. Last year’s graduating class earned an average score of 25 on the ACT. Students in the honors program had an average score of 30; the national ACT average score is 20.8.

The admissions department reviews applicants’ academics as well as qualities such as leadership and eagerness to learn. "We seek out students with a strong desire to serve others and grow in their faith," says Christina Mullis, director of admissions and enrollment. "We also look for students who have extracurricular involvement, aptitude for leadership and a sincere desire to be academically challenged.

• This year’s senior class gave more than 20,000 hours of service to the Greater Cincinnati community and expanded the Appalachian and Nicaragua service trips.

• The science department has earned the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for 27 consecutive years. The award recognizes excellence in science department instruction as well as the opportunities that students have taken advantage of to extend their science education beyond the classroom.

• Molly Jorden, ‘17, received a gold medal at the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in June. Last summer, she received a Congressional Art Award.

• The men’s golf team won the state championship in 2016.
