It takes more than the perfect homesite to attract home buyers today. They want to belong to a greater community while enjoying a lifestyle that fits their individual needs, so a builder’s flexible design approach is key, says Tom Humes, President and Founder of Traditions Building & Development Group.

“This is our 41st year in the business, and we’ve learned a lot over the years and we continue to grow. But what is constant about what we do is, we design our homes and communities to meet the needs of the market place, and the market place is ever-changing and has many components. It doesn’t matter what type of house or condominium or part of town our clients are looking for, today they are looking for a lifestyle that will fit their personal style and make them happy.”

“Our clients are usually at a turning point – whether it be downsizing or buying a home for the very first time. This is an important decision that sets the tone for how and where they are going to live for the next several years,” says Jamie Humes, Vice President of Marketing. “They aren’t just building a home, but are also building the next stage of their lives. That’s meaningful and we’re here to help them do that well.”

Hence, Traditions Group has been busy completing three lifestyle communities geared toward empty nesters, professionals of all ages, and a combination of both market segments.

“We are committed to creating exciting lifestyle opportunities for our clients, and each of these communities is designed with a focus on the highest quality, style and design,” Tom Humes adds.

The Retreat at Summit Park in Blue Ash, for example, is designed primarily with the empty nester in mind. Located within walking distance to the beautiful, 130-acre Summit Park, this signature lifestyle community offers homebuyers a selection of one- and two-story designs featuring spacious, open layouts; first-floor master retreats; gourmet kitchens and high-quality finishes. This community’s emphasis on integrated indoor and outdoor living means dynamic yet private rear courtyards or walkouts, all expertly designed for homeowners’ relaxing or entertaining pleasure.

The City Series at Merrimac Square, designed to meet the local demand by professionals of all ages for upscale urban living, is located in Evanston near East Walnut Hills and DeSales Corner. It features 24 new residences in a combination of single-family detached homes, duplexes, carriage homes and town homes.

“They’re all built for different lifestyles, but all in the same community and connected by the same design and amenities used throughout,” says Doug Hinger, AIA, President, Traditions Building Group.

The community offers a quiet park area and walkable streetscape close to restaurants, bars and shops, he notes. Multiple floor plans are available for clients to choose from, along with a full range of customizable finishes. The residences include granite kitchen countertops, hardwood floors and 10-foot first-floor ceilings, as well an array of flexible designs allowing optional features such as a study, a studio, or a third floor or finished lower level. Each residence also includes a two-car garage and a private outdoor space – either a large deck, a patio or a full backyard.

“This is where we’re plugging into a very walkable neighborhood,” Hinger says. “We’re extremely excited about our City Series at Merrimac Square.”

The Wicks at The Vintage Club in Montgomery is the “granddaddy of them all,” Hinger continues. This lifestyle community is geared toward empty nesters and professionals, offering an impressive collection of single-floor, boutique luxury residences located in gorgeous three-story stone and brick buildings, each with a secured-access elevator and private underground parking garage. The new “Village” at The Vintage Club will offer a mix of offices, retail and restaurants, all within a walkable setting connected by vibrant streetscapes and paved public walkways.

“We’ve been creating this community for the better part of 15 years, and now we’re introducing the next piece, which includes The Village and the first of 44 luxury condominiums” Tom says. “We named it The Wicks, which is actually an Old English term for a hamlet or a village, and also the material that turns fuel into flame. So, The Wicks offers the best of both worlds to those empty nesters who are looking for a new lifestyle – one that is a bit simpler, yet also exciting.

“Over the years we’ve found that many empty nesters want something different, but they want to stay close to their families and friends. And that is exactly what we’re creating at The Vintage Club with the new luxury condominiums.”

Another great attribute: The Vintage Club is situated near Montgomery Road and I-275, a great location for people who have been living in the northern suburbs throughout their lives.

“We create exciting new housing for the future, but everything we’re building is built on the past history of our great Cincinnati communities and classic neighborhoods,” Tom says. “That’s why our name is Traditions – we want to build on those exciting traditions and create new traditions for tomorrow.”
