DAF lauded for its Deaconess Health Checks with Ernest Talbert Award

Deaconess Associations Foundation, Inc. (DAF) has been awarded the Ernest Talbert Award for providing healthcare to at-risk children and adults through its Deaconess Health Checks.

There are currently 11 such clinics located throughout greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky.

The Deaconess Health Check clinics provide a variety of primary care services in traditionally underserved settings such as school campuses, homeless shelters, and behavioral centers. Two clinics are housed at Talbert House locations in Walnut Hills and Price Hill.         

The award was presented to Tony Woods, Deaconess Associations, Inc. chairman of the board, on Sept. 25 at the Talbert House’s annual luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Cincinnati.

Since 2012, DAF has invested more than $6 million in grants to local community organizations that deliver measurable healthcare improvements to underserved adults and children.

“We focus on serving those who do not have access to readily-available healthcare, and our Health Check clinics provide primary care for a fragile part of the population,” said Woods. “The individuals served through our Talbert House locations are working to achieve personal recovery and growth, and satisfying basic healthcare needs is paramount to their success.”

Talbert House is a nonprofit network of services focusing on assessment, treatment, prevention, and reintegration for children, adults and families throughout southwest Ohio. Last year, it served more than 21,700 clients.

“Deaconess is a very important partner to us,” said Neil Tilow, president and CEO of Talbert House.  “Together, we’re serving struggling individuals and families where they live to comprehensively meet their primary and behavioral health needs.”

DAF partners with other non-profit organizations to provide grants that support critical community health needs by investing in neighborhood-based care and services that enhance access, encourage wellness, prevention, and education. It caters to vulnerable populations in homeless shelters, substance abuse centers, children’s homes, school settings and youth programs.

DAF is the philanthropic arm of Deaconess Associations, Inc., a diversified healthcare organization that provides residency and patient care within its senior service communities and specialized home care services to those requiring assistance in their personal homes.
