The Cincinnati Cyclones love ice. That is one of the reasons they were very proud to present a unique winter 5K run, appropriately called the Cincinnati Cyclones Frozen 5K Run/Walk. The second annual run took participants on a 3.1 mile course along the banks of the Ohio River and through Cincinnati’s Transit Center underneath Second Street. The race was held on January 30. The team mascot, Twister, the team’s Zamboni driver, and thousands of other brave souls achieved New Year’s resolutions and helped the Pink Ribbon Girls in the process.

Pink Ribbon Girls is a grassroots nonprofit organization created to support and empower women to courageously fight and survive breast cancer. They provide free direct services such as housekeeping, transportation, meals and peer support for women and their families. Tracie Metzger, founder of Pink Ribbon Girls, was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago at age 30. Pink Ribbon Girls continues to grow exponentially and is making a huge impact in the greater Cincinnati and Dayton areas. It is their goal to one day provide these same services nationwide.

Every race participant received a long sleeve technical shirt, hot chocolate after the race, and admission to the Cyclones Pink in the Rink game that evening. A jersey auction was held after the game with all proceeds going directly to Pink Ribbon Girls.

Last year, the record winning time was 15.40. This year’s winner ran across the finish line in 15 minutes and 53 seconds. Many followed closely behind and many others simply enjoyed a brisk walk to the finish line on this beautiful, sunny but "frozen" Saturday morning.
