Whether designing and building a new home or embarking upon a large-scale remodeling of your existing home, both take a dash of desire, a dare to dream and the determination to not let the details overwhelm you.

The Leland Group recognizes that just the thought of designing the house of your dreams or doing a major remodel can induce a case of jitters in even the most stalwart of clients. Since its inception in 2004, the custom home building company has established a customer-focused process that helps calm the nerves.

Their nine-step strategy: Design, Preliminary Plans, Plan Review, Estimating Cost, Proposal, Construction, Agreement, Building, Close and Relationship.

"Our goal is for our clients to have a good experience," says John Ballantyne, founder of the Leland Group, who has been building homes in the Greater Cincinnati area since 1987. "We try to make it as smooth an experience as possible."

Ballantyne has assembled a portfolio of custom homes including French country, arts and crafts, modern and transitional styles. According to Ballantyne, what differentiates The Leland Group from other custom builders is their love of variance in design style.

"Some builders seem to get stuck on one category of design," he says. "Our company is a true custom home builder. Our plans and styles all vary. We just love to build, and we encourage the diversity. It’s what makes our job fun." In fact, he adds, it’s difficult to recognize a Leland home unless there is a sign out front saying they’re the builder.

"I take great pride in the fact that many of the trades that work for me have worked for me since I started 30 years ago," he says. "Most of them have worked with me for 15 years or more. We’ve got an experienced group. We made it through the difficult economic times of 2008. We respect them and the respect comes back to our clients."

Most properties have their share of building pros and cons, and Ballantyne says, his company is equipped to tackle a variety of terrains. They are particularly good at working through site challenges while making most of site opportunities.

"Our goal with all our clients is once we design a home with them, they are part of the Leland family," Ballantyne says. "We stay in touch, and we let them know that if they need anything, please give us a call."
