The recent announcement of new Purcell Marian Principal Andy Farfsing (class of ‘95) came almost at the same time that the school’s track and field team was heading to state. Just days later, following his introductory presentation to faculty and staff, Purcell Marian’s 4×200 relay team won the gold medal for the school and the 4×100 relay team brought home a silver, representing the school’s first state championship titles in more than 10 years.

In the first week of Farfsing’s tenure, he managed to secure former Nativity principal and Purcell graduate Bob Herring (class of ‘68) to serve on the school’s staff for the 2017-2018 school year and received board funding for a brand new website, slated to launch this fall. If these aren’t enough, he’s committed to developing the school’s strengths through collaboration and teamwork with the Purcell Marian community, including faculty, parents, students and alumni. With one of the most diverse school communities and the strength of more than 18,000 alumni, there appears to be big things on the horizon for the Cavaliers.

“It is an honor of a lifetime to have been appointed Principal/CEO of Purcell Marian High School,” says Farfsing. “As a graduate of Purcell Marian, I can distinctly remember the power of this faith-based community, rooted in Gospel values and driven by a spirit that compels everyone to be outstanding among all. Purcell Marian instilled in me a unique Catholic identity which has led to a nearly 17-year career in Catholic education.” The school motto, Praestans Inter Omnes, or Outstanding Among All, is Farfsing’s aim for current and future Cavaliers alike.

Additionally, Purcell Marian recently announced a new partnership with Good Samaritan College, which will enable Purcell Marian students to earn dual college credits that can be applied to a variety of certification and degree opportunities in the nursing and allied health science fields. Courses offered for the 2017-2018 school year include English Composition I (ENG101) and Introduction to Psychology (PSY103), and will be taught by Good Samaritan College faculty on Purcell Marian’s campus.

Other initiatives Farfsing plans to undertake include the addition of several faculty members, strengthening the school’s approach to utilizing its technology resources and a fresh focus on the overall academic and curriculum profile.
