Imagine if high school students and adults could get technical training and certification for valuable career skills alongside their classroom studies or full-time job. Since 1970, students have been doing just that at Great Oaks Career Campuses. With four locations in Southwest Ohio and satellite programs at dozens of affiliated schools, it is one of the largest career technical schools in the country.
Great Oaks boasts exemplary courses in culinary arts, animal science and nursing, and has a diverse array of other job certification programs in addition to dual credit classes that give high school students a jump-start into college. Jon Weidlich, community relations director, says, “All our programs are designed to give students some kind of certification upon completion.”
In addition to traditional students, every year 44,000 adults take advantage of Great Oaks for a wide range of classes and services, including full- and part-time programs ranging from aviation mechanics to law enforcement. To ensure its programs launch graduates directly into careers and universities, thousands of business and industry professionals serve on advisory councils. Great Oaks also has educational partnerships with Cincinnati State, the University of Cincinnati, Hocking College and others.
“Because we are a public school,” Weidlich says, “high school education is free. College tuition is reasonable and financial aid is available for those who qualify. We want our students to be successful and we want potential students to know what to expect.”
