(US and Canada) The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has appointed Mike Horton as the acting Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. In addition to his existing role as Deputy Chief Data Officer, Horton will also be responsible for coordinating the Department's use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), promoting AI innovation, and managing the risks from the use of AI.
Horton will be managing a program that supports the department in identifying and managing risks from AI, working with senior officials to establish or update processes to measure, monitor, and evaluate the ongoing performance of agency AI applications. He will oversee agency compliance requirements to manage risks from the use of AI including risk assessments of AI applications and use cases to ensure compliance.
As Deputy CDO, Horton supervises all non-geospatial divisions within the Office of the Chief Data Officer for the Department of Transportation responsible for providing enterprise data analytics, governance, and shared services products and services that support the Department.
Horton also previously served as a Senior Analyst, Researcher, and Data Engineer for the Department of the Treasury's Office of Financial Research. Additionally, he served as an Analyst, Researcher, Investigator, and Data Scientist for the Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration.
