(US and Canada) We are pleased to welcome David Blum to CDO Magazine’s Global Editorial Board. Blum is the CIO of United Wheels, where he spearheads business growth and digital transformation by fostering technological innovation within the global enterprise that specializes in producing and distributing wheeled goods.

Throughout his career, Blum has held various leadership roles in technology, digital marketing, and product development across multiple industries such as retail, telecommunications, education, publishing, transportation, logistics, insurance, and manufacturing.

Before his tenure at United Wheels, Blum served as the Chief Information and Innovation Officer at Hylant, where he also managed a tech startup investment fund and an accelerator program. Earlier, Blum held dual roles as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at W.W. Williams, and he has been the CIO at Highlights, Fisher College of Business, and Zane State College, in addition to holding several leadership roles at SBC Communications/AT&T.

Blum's leadership and contributions to technology and innovation have been widely recognized. He was honored with the 2024 AI100 award and named the 2022 Ohio CIO of the Year by the ORBIE Awards. He was also a finalist for the 2023 National CIO of the Year award. His accolades include the 2021 C-Suite Award for Most Admired Chief Information Officer in Central Ohio and the 2018 C-Suite Award for Most Admired Chief Marketing Officer in Central Ohio.

Additionally, Blum has received the Info-Tech Research Group's 2022 CIO Award, the 2021 Visionary & Growth Leader CIO Award, and the 2018 CIO Leadership Award. Blum has been recognized as a leading IT executive in the Central Ohio region, being included in the Central Ohio Tech Power Player Awards Class of 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Blum earned his undergraduate degree in communication systems from Ohio University, complemented by a minor in business administration and a focus on organizational development. He has also completed graduate work in business administration at Roosevelt University and marketing and communications at Franklin University.

He has also been actively engaged and has held leadership roles in various local, state, and national organizations. His involvement includes serving on governance and advisory boards at Ohio University, Zane State College, Ohio State University, Franklin University, and the University of Toledo, as well as serving on the board of trustees for the PAST Foundation.

Additionally, Blum is a recognized speaker and has published works nationally on subjects such as organizational development, digital transformation, IT strategy, and innovation.
