VIDEO | University of Toronto Data Science Director: Analytics Aids Transparency, Credibility and Reduced Bias

(US and Canada) Pascal Tyrrell, Director of Data Science, University of Toronto, speaks with Robert Lutton, Sandhill Consultants Vice President and CDO Magazine Editorial Board Chair, in a video interview about business values, the importance of data analytics, the role of optimization, and the ideal approach to starting the data analytics journey.

According to Tyrrell, the business values that shape organizations as they transform into data analytics-driven organizations include transparency, credibility, and reduced bias. He says that data analytics helps bridge the gap in an organization’s ability to apply knowledge and benefit from it. It aids transparency and credibility and helps customers or clients believe in products. He also mentions that unbiased data is essential to ensure that products are not developed based on biased data, which can skew the results.

Tyrrell mentions optimization and efficiency regarding the future of data analytics opportunities for organizations. It is about dealing with data, making changes and being responsive in real-time. However, Tyrrell maintains that it will be challenging to achieve this without the proper infrastructure in place.

He urges organizations starting their data analytics journey to start early, plan, give it time, and talk to a lot of people.

CDO Magazine appreciates Pascal Tyrrell for sharing his insights and data success stories with our global community.
