(US and Canada) Ron Zochalski, CTO and CISO of Lake County Government – Indiana, speaks with Jeff Strane, Director of Strategy for Public Sector at SHI, in a video interview about the change management process in Lake County and the role of educational institutions in filling the organization’s talent pipeline.
Zochalski says that Lake County is in the process of implementing many changes and he tries to educate the users to alleviate resistance. He adds that while success requires a combination of people, process, and technology, it is the people who don’t want to go through repeated process changes. He also mentions that technology can be very overwhelming and change gets intimidating as people age, especially in the government sector.
Speaking about his approach to replenishing the talent pipeline, Zochalski reveals that Lake County has ties with universities and has built bridges to introduce students to the various areas of work. They get the opportunity to work directly with the judges, the magistrates, or even the law enforcement departments via apprenticeship programs to gain real-life hands-on experiences.
Zochalski further states that local universities will eventually be forced to build strong relationships with businesses and communities to survive as demand for skilled professionals increases. They can give students real experiences and help them find something that they want to pursue as a career.
CDO Magazine thanks Ron Zochalski for sharing his insights and data success stories with our global community.
