VIDEO | McKesson Director of Enterprise Analytics: Diverse Teams Bring Different Approaches to Problem-Solving

(US and Canada) Wendy Lawhead, Director of Enterprise Analytics, Retail and Health Systems Customer Solutions, McKesson, speaks with Asha Saxena, Founder and CEO of WLDA.tech, in an International Women’s Month special video interview about the responsibility of humans to avoid biases in AI algorithms and practices for ethical and responsible AI.

Lawhead begins by stating that it is an organization’s responsibility to know what data goes into an AI model and be able to explain its output. Speaking about the approach to having the right ethics and responsible AI practices in organizations, she points towards hiring diverse talent, upskilling, and collaborative learning. Lawhead explains that the diversity in teams brings different perspectives not only culturally or ethnically but also in the way teams approach problems.

She further stresses the need for enabling a safe environment where they are allowed to experiment and take risks without worrying about repercussions. It helps with innovation and moving things forward.

When asked about how viable generative AI can be in real business use cases, Lawhead notes that people are starting to take it seriously and companies are already looking to incorporate it into business processes to make jobs easier and deliver products to customers.

Lawhead cites Microsoft's search for ways to build products for people trying to deliver value and also speaks about the possibility of using AI tools as assistants for jobs like creating presentations.
