Salesforce has launched Agentforce in Slack, a new AI solution designed to bring task-specific “digital teammates” directly into workplace conversations. The move signals a shift from general-purpose assistants to specialized agents built to handle complex workflows and business operations within Slack’s collaborative environment.
Unlike traditional AI chatbots, these digital teammates can access company data, understand Slack conversations in real time and execute multi-step actions such as pulling customer insights, managing onboarding and handling employee queries. The platform also features Slack Employee Agent Templates for quick deployment of common use cases.
“Companies need AI agents that collaborate like skilled teammates,” says Rob Seaman, Chief Product Officer of Slack at Salesforce. “Agentforce enables just that — agents that take initiative, reason, and adapt.”
To power these agents, Salesforce introduced Slack Enterprise Search and General Slack Topic — tools that let agents scan messages, files, and apps and respond contextually within conversations. The system maintains enterprise-grade security, respecting existing user permissions and safeguarding sensitive information.
The solution has already shown impressive results: Salesforce’s internal engineering agent deflected over 18,000 queries, saving an estimated $1.4 million.
“We’re not replacing humans,” says John Kucera, SVP of Salesforce AI. “We’re freeing them up to focus on work that requires creativity and judgment, while agents take care of the repetitive and routine.”
