Perplexity has rolled out a major update to its iOS app, introducing a new AI voice assistant capable of handling tasks like setting reminders, writing emails and booking services — bringing it closer than ever to Apple’s Siri in functionality.
The updated app now supports continuous voice conversations even while running in the background, offering users a seamless hands-free experience. However, unlike Google’s Gemini, Perplexity’s assistant still lacks screen and camera sharing functionality.
First released for Android in January, the mobile assistant is now available to iPhone users, who can activate its full range of features by granting necessary permissions. While many functions are automated, certain tasks — especially on iOS — still require manual user input.
With multi-app integration, the assistant can book rides via Uber or compose an email through Apple Mail. On newer iPhones, users can also customize the Action button for quick access to the assistant.
While the update gives Perplexity a Siri-like feel, system-level features remain inaccessible due to iOS restrictions. Siri is expected to get a major AI upgrade later this year as part of the company’s broader Apple Intelligence rollout.
Perplexity now supports real-time search across platforms such as YouTube and podcasts and can respond to questions about shared images—though live camera input remains unsupported.
All features are available to free-tier users, with a five-message limit per session. Unlimited access is offered via a $20/month Plus subscription.
