OpenAI has introduced a five-tier system to measure its progress in developing AI that could surpass human performance, as per a Bloomberg report. This move is expected to provide clarity and insight into the company’s futuristic vision for AI and AI safety.

The five tiers range from the current conversational AI (Level 1) to advanced AI that can operate an entire organization (Level 5).

Reportedly, OpenAI considers itself at the first level. The second level is referred to as “reasoners,” which indicates AI systems capable of basic problem-solving tasks. It is being compared to a human with a doctorate but without access to additional tools.

The third level, “Agents,” refers to AI systems capable of performing tasks on behalf of users for several days. Further, the fourth level involves an AI that can generate new innovations, and the highest level, “organizations,” signifies AI that can operate autonomously within an organization.

OpenAI’s executives and senior leaders have developed the tiers, which are still a work in progress. In addition, the company intends to collect feedback from employees, investors, and its board to refine the levels further.
