Global tech company Nokia has introduced a generative AI-powered tool called “MX Workmate,” to create messages for industrial workers based on real-time data. MX Workmate aims to address the challenge of data overload by providing valuable insights and actionable recommendations to industrial workers.

Key Features of MX Workmate

The tool employs LLMs to produce human-like text, enhancing Nokia’s existing communication technology for industrial clients. The messages generated by MX Workmate include early warnings about machine malfunctions, recommended repair actions, solutions to enhance production quality and rates, and guidelines for handling accidents in factories.

Safety Issues

Stephane Daeuble, Head of Enterprise Solutions Marketing at Nokia, told Reuters that the tool serves as an assistant to help workers interpret data, especially in the context of a shortage of qualified staff in manufacturing. Nokia is known for supplying 4G and 5G technology, facilitating in-house communications and connecting industrial companies to machine sensor data.

“Now the idea is we have an assistant that’s there to help the worker make sense of all this data,” Daeuble said.

Daeuble emphasized the importance of the tool being compliant with operational technology (OT) regulations. However, he acknowledged that gaining trust in the “forward-looking” technology might take time, requiring thorough testing and fine-tuning across various industries.

Legal and ethical concerns have always been a concern for AI generated data as the models often hallucinate, prompting the need for accuracy, clarity, traceability, and moderation in AI-generated content.

Talking about the technology, Deuble said that it “needs to be accurate, clear and right. And it needs to be traceable and moderated,” emphasizing the necessity for the tool to undergo rigorous testing and validation before widespread adoption.

To ensure accuracy and reliability, initial safeguards will be implemented, such as having a person validate the AI prompts.
