Mastercard and PayPal are joining forces to accelerate the rollout of “agentic commerce” — a new class of AI-powered shopping experiences where autonomous agents can search, select, and complete purchases on behalf of users.
Under the agreement, Mastercard Agent Pay will be integrated directly into PayPal’s wallet, enabling AI agents to securely execute transactions for hundreds of millions of PayPal users and tens of millions of merchants worldwide. The collaboration also includes piloting Mastercard’s Agent Pay Acceptance Framework to ensure interoperability, agent verification, and secure data exchange.
“Mastercard doesn’t just enable payments — we’re relentlessly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in commerce,” said Sherri Haymond, Co-President of Global Partnerships at Mastercard. “Together, we’re building the future of commerce, where seamless, secure payments are the launchpad for new experiences and bold ideas.”
Michelle Gill, Executive Vice-President at PayPal, said the integration will bring trust and flexibility to AI-led transactions: “By bringing together Mastercard’s Agent Pay with our wallet, we are empowering merchants and consumers to participate in agentic commerce with trust and flexibility at the center.”
The companies say the partnership will reduce friction, improve conversion rates, and allow merchants who already accept PayPal checkout to immediately participate in AI-driven commerce without new technical complexity.
