Manulife has reinforced its commitment to ethical artificial intelligence by unveiling its Responsible AI Principles at the Reuters Momentum AI Summit in New York. The principles are designed to guide the company’s fast-growing portfolio of AI applications, which now includes more than 43 GenAI use cases in production and an equal number set for deployment by the end of the year.
The Canadian insurer said over 450 AI ideas are currently under evaluation as it ramps up innovation while prioritizing transparency, safety and sustainability.
“GenAI is enabling us to better serve our customers, find innovative ways of working and accelerate our ambition of becoming the most digital customer-centric company in our industry,” said Karen Leggett, Manulife’s Global Chief Marketing Officer. “At the same time, Manulife is taking great care to embed ethical AI principles in every application and workflow.”
The Responsible AI Principles emphasize fairness, accountability, explainability and alignment with Manulife’s Code of Business Conduct and Impact Agenda. The company also pledged to develop energy-efficient AI systems and partner with organizations that share its values.
Manulife says it will continue evolving its principles in response to technological advances and regulatory developments, aiming to position itself as a “responsible AI steward” in a rapidly shifting landscape.
