The Biden administration is seeking US$ 3 billion for federal agencies’ use of artificial intelligence and plans to use US $70 million for hiring Chief AI Officers (CAIO).

As stipulated in the broad Executive Order on artificial intelligence issued by the Biden administration, numerous federal agencies are mandated to appoint Chief AI Officers (CAIOs).

Overall, the Biden administration is requesting a budget of US$7.3 trillion for fiscal 2025.

Out of the proposed US$3 billion for AI, around $30 million will be directed towards the National AI Research Resource pilot (NAIRR), and US$32 million to support the AI Talent Surge, among other things.

Moreover, the Commerce Department is allocated $50 million to establish its AI Safety Institute, tasked with devising standards for AI usage.

“Advances in AI are creating groundbreaking opportunities, while changing the nature of work and organizational management. To benefit from the opportunities created by AI while mitigating its risks, the administration is committed to advancing its management of AI and significantly expanding AI talent in the federal government,” the White House said.

Moreover, the Biden administration is also seeking US$75 million to support federal agencies’ IT modernization efforts.
