The White House has expanded President Donald Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, a voluntary initiative to ensure that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure does not increase electricity costs for American households and businesses.

“The goal is clear: ensure the growth of data centers powering America’s AI dominance will not raise electricity bills for American households and businesses,” the White House said in a statement.

The administration said the effort is intended to strengthen U.S. leadership in AI while ensuring the costs of expanding data center infrastructure are not passed on to residential ratepayers.

According to the White House, the pledge now includes 23 governors and nearly 200 companies spanning the technology, utility and data center sectors.

Participating organizations have committed to ensuring that residential ratepayers do not bear the costs of new power generation, transmission upgrades or other infrastructure required to support AI-related data centers.

The initiative comes as demand for electricity continues to rise alongside investments in AI computing infrastructure. The administration argues that expanding data center capacity is essential for maintaining U.S. competitiveness in artificial intelligence and supporting economic growth.

President Trump has positioned the pledge as a key component of the administration’s broader AI strategy, emphasizing both innovation and consumer protection. The White House said the commitment will help accelerate AI development while shielding Americans from higher utility bills.
