The Biden administration reports that it is approaching the halfway mark in its goal to recruit 500 artificial intelligence experts into the federal government by the end of the next fiscal year.

According to an update on progress under President Joe Biden’s AI executive order, over 200 hires have been made so far.

The White House further revealed that the AI cohort from the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Presidential Innovation Fellows program and the Department of Homeland Security’s AI Corps have played a significant role in this governmentwide hiring effort.

Earlier this year, DHS announced its plan to hire around 50 AI experts in 2024. The “AI Corps” draws inspiration from the U.S. Digital Service, assembling teams dedicated to responsibly leveraging this innovative technology across key areas of homeland security.
