The U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC) has awarded a $2.9 million contract to Raft LLC for the development of an API Gateway. The Gateway aims to improve interoperability and real-time data availability by translating legacy and modern data messaging formats into API-ready endpoints.
Many Space Force data producers continue to use outdated formats incompatible with modern systems, leaving critical information underutilized. The new gateway automates format translation, significantly improving data usability and accelerating decision-making timelines for warfighters.
Issued through the Space Enterprise Consortium’s (SpEC) Other Transaction Authority (OTA), the contract supports the ongoing evolution of the Unified Data Library (UDL)—a cloud-based, multi-classification data repository facilitating integration across Space Force operations.
“The delivery of innovative tools like the API Gateway is key to providing our warfighters with accessible and actionable data faster than ever before. This capability strengthens our ability to connect legacy systems with modern applications, thus enhancing mission readiness and turning the Digital Space Force Vision into reality,” Lt. Col. Dan Kimmich, Global Mission Data Dominance (GMDD) Materiel Leader within SSC’s Battle Management, Command, Control, and Communication and Space Intelligence (BMC3I) Program Executive Office (PEO), said.
The API Gateway effort is part of a broader acquisition strategy for the UDL, which entered the Software Acquisition Pathway in November 2024.
With oversight of a $15.6 billion space acquisition portfolio, SSC continues to lead in advancing technologies that secure U.S. interests in, from, and to space, ensuring today’s innovations shape the future of the domain.
