The U.S. Space Force (USSF) has unveiled its Data and Artificial Intelligence FY 2025 Strategic Action Plan, presenting a clear and actionable roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations and enhancing AI literacy across its workforce.

To effectively leverage AI in addressing operational challenges, the service will focus on the following four lines of effort to ensure data is visible, accessible, understandable, rapidly adopted, linked, trustworthy, interoperable, and secure:

• Establish and mature enterprise-wide data and AI governance

• Foster a data and AI-driven culture

• Accelerate the adoption of data, advanced analytics, and AI technologies

• Strengthen partnerships across government, academia, industry, and international allies.

“We must think differently, for in the space between ‘how it’s always been done’ and ‘how it could be done,’ lies the grit and determination to deliver the capabilities our warfighters truly need, at speed and scale. In doing so, we recognize that partnerships equal progress and together we will accomplish the President’s priorities and the actions in this plan,” USSF Chief Data and AI Officer Chandra Donelson told CDO Magazine.

Last year, USSF released its Fiscal Year 2024 Strategic Action Plan for Data and Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing the adoption of modern, adaptive data capabilities for rapid intelligence utilization. 

The plan prioritized strong governance, cultivating a data-driven culture, optimizing data and AI technologies, and strengthening partnerships across government, academia, industry, and international allies to enhance data visibility, accessibility, security, and interoperability.
