The U.S. Secret Service is ramping up efforts to integrate artificial intelligence by recruiting specialized tech talent, Nextgov/FCW reports.
In a recent interview, Chief Information Officer and Chief AI Officer Chris Kraft outlined a new initiative to embed AI experts across the agency to accelerate AI adoption.
He described the effort as βa small group of AI experts that can bring expertise internally to the Secret Service, and then focus on our AI initiatives across the organization.β
βI think that there’s a lot of value in having experts as federal employees, instead of just contracting for that capability,β he added.
The agency has already deployed AI tools, including systems to analyze low-quality imagery and support facial recognition efforts. Kraft, who previously served as acting CTO at the Department of Homeland Security, emphasized that embedding in-house expertise is key to scaling impact.
He added that AI can help personnel process overwhelming data flows, calling it βa huge win.β Ultimately, Kraft believes the initiative will strengthen adoption, noting, βI think having this internal team will really help us transform our (AI) adoption across the organization.β
