The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) has released a comprehensive implementation plan detailing how it will integrate AI capabilities across the service to enhance decision-making, operational effectiveness, and digital readiness.

It comes nearly a year after the launch of the Marine Corps’ overarching artificial intelligence (AI) strategy.

The AI Implementation Plan details the required actions, designated offices of primary responsibility (OPRs), and key milestones for carrying out the USMC AI Strategy.

The USMC AI Implementation Plan introduces a Digital Transformation Pilot deploying specialized teams to deliver AI, data, and analytics solutions, optimize processes, and advise commands on digital risks and opportunities. 

It emphasizes data as the foundation for AI, focusing on improved governance, cultural shifts, and updates to the Data Implementation Plan.

“This plan supports and informs the ongoing strategic efforts to update the USMC Data Implementation Plan (DIP) and outlines inclusion of inspectable items to be introduced into the Commanding General’s Inspection Program to shift the culture toward data-driven decision,” the document reads.

Additional priorities include building AI infrastructure, evolving the workforce, expanding training programs, and addressing policy blockers. 

The plan also proposes establishing a Center for Digital Transformation to drive innovation and outlines a governance and resource framework to ensure alignment, responsible AI use, and enterprise-wide implementation from headquarters to the tactical edge.
