The U.S. Marine Corps is preparing to expand its Digital Transformation Teams (DTXs) as part of a four-phase strategy to scale artificial intelligence across the service, according to Christopher Clark, AI lead and deputy commandant for information in the Marine Corps Service Data Office, Meritalk reported.
Speaking at the Defense IT Summit on Feb. 26, Clark said the Corps is nearing completion of phase one, which focused on establishing the DTXs.
Launched last year under the AI implementation plan, the teams support deployment of AI solutions, assess performance, and advise on risks and capability gaps.
DTXs currently operate within units including the II Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Logistics Command. Phase two will standardize and expand the teams to the remaining I Marine Expeditionary Force and III Marine Expeditionary Force, defining structure, team composition, and staffing levels.
Leaders are also building talent pipelines to train entry-level Marines and assign them to DTX roles, while streamlining tools and platforms to reduce complexity.
Clark said several AI solutions developed by DTXs will be unveiled in coming weeks, with some expected to scale service-wide.
Earlier this year, the Marine Corps named GenAI.mil its official enterprise generative AI platform, consolidating multiple general-purpose AI tools into a single system.
