The U.S. Department of Labor has launched “Make America AI-Ready,” a free artificial intelligence literacy course designed to help workers learn AI basics by simply texting “READY” to 20202.
The initiative supports the Trump administration and aligns with America’s Talent Strategy and the White House AI Action Plan, which aim to prepare the workforce for an AI-driven economy.
The program delivers bite-sized lessons and daily challenges entirely via text message, allowing participants to complete the course in seven days with just 10 minutes of daily engagement. Its mobile-first design is intended to ensure accessibility, especially for individuals without reliable internet or computers.
It covers five key areas, including AI fundamentals, use cases, prompting, evaluation, and responsible usage. Participants also receive guidance on pursuing advanced AI skills, while ensuring that their data remains private and is not shared with third parties.
Developed through a public-private partnership with edtech firm Arist, the initiative also builds on broader efforts to expand AI education nationwide.
“The ‘Make America AI-Ready’ initiative is designed to ensure every American worker has the chance to learn foundational skills so they can benefit from the opportunities that the AI economy presents. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Labor remains committed to putting American workers first by providing them with the skills they need to support themselves and their families,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
