The U.S. Department of Labor has launched a modernized open data portal aimed at expanding public access to workforce data while improving interoperability and artificial intelligence readiness.
The new portal replaces the department’s aging enforcement data page, which will be decommissioned on February 23. Unlike its predecessor, which featured enforcement data from five agencies, the updated platform aggregates datasets from across the department.
These include national weekly unemployment insurance claims from the Employment and Training Administration, federal contractor veteran employment data from the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, and county-level childcare price data from the Women’s Bureau.
“This is a win for everyone, from data scientists and researchers to journalists and the general public, who want to understand our department’s work and enforcement actions. The new portal is a realization of our vision for truly open data at the department,” said Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Secretary of Labor.
The platform includes a data visualization gallery and a modern API that enables customized data queries. Since its soft launch in October 2024, more than 1,400 users have registered for free API access, generating more than 5 million queries.
