The U.S. Federal Transit Administration (FTA) which is a modal administration within the US Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently accepting applications for a Chief Data Officer (CDO).

The FTA offers both financial and technical support to a range of public transportation systems, including buses, subways, light rail, commuter rail, trolleys, and ferries.

The CDO will be a senior advisor to the FTA Executive Director on all data-related matters, including data governance, advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The data chief will also provide technical leadership to enhance data-driven decision-making by managing centralized analytics, developing tools and platforms, and promoting self-service for the public. 

Moreover, the role will involve working with internal and external agencies to explore new technologies and best practices, drive cultural change towards new tech and data management, and advance policies for making FTA data more accessible and accurate. It will also liaise with Open Data organizations to ensure efficient data use.

According to a job posting on USAJOBS, the applicants must have proven experience in applying data science and management to transportation issues, integrating emerging technologies like machine learning and cloud computing into decision support systems, and evaluating data systems using analytics and machine learning to enhance transportation safety.
