The U.S. Department of War (also Department of Defense) has launched GenAI.mil, a new artificial intelligence platform designed to bring advanced generative AI tools to the entire military workforce.
The first capability available on the platform is Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government, which will be followed by additional frontier models accessible to civilians, contractors and service members.
“The first instance on GenAI.mil, Gemini for Government, empowers intelligent agentic workflows, unleashes experimentation, and ushers in an AI-driven culture change that will dominate the digital battlefield for years to come,” the department said.
The rollout supports the AI Action Plan announced by the White House earlier this year and follows President Donald Trump’s July directive calling for rapid advancements to secure U.S. dominance in AI technologies.
According to the department, AI tools are now deployed across Pentagon desktops and military installations worldwide.
Officials said Gemini for Government will power intelligent workflows, accelerate experimentation and help drive an AI-focused culture within the department. The technology is intended to enhance both analytical and creative tasks while strengthening operational readiness.
GenAI.mil stands out for its mission-focused design and strong responsible AI guardrails rooted in Department of War standards.
Built for enterprise-scale collaboration, the platform evolves with the workforce and incorporates lessons from earlier AI initiatives to deliver a secure, resilient, and trusted capability across the department.
