U.S. Customs and Border Protection is rolling out an AI-powered chatbot called ChatCBP to support its workforce, according to Fedscoop.
Designed to enhance efficiency and secure access to information, ChatCBP uses a large language model to deliver fast, conversational responses to CBP personnel. The agency, however, declined to name the specific large language model behind chatCBP for security reasons.
According to a CBP spokesperson, the tool includes features such as document summarization, data extraction, multi-file analysis and information compilation — helping reduce time spent navigating and interpreting complex documents.
Going forward, CBP plans to integrate the chatbot with key enterprise missions and support applications such as SharePoint.
ChatCBP is similar to DHSChat, released earlier this year. DHSChat is an AI-powered chatbot designed exclusively for use within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled Elsa, a similar generative AI tool aimed at enhancing efficiency across its workforce — from scientific reviewers to field investigators.
Similar to ChatCBP, Elsa is powered by large language models and is designed to assist FDA staff with a range of tasks including reading, writing and summarizing.
