U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning that various state level artificial intelligence (AI) regulation could hamper the growth and development of the technology in the United States.
Taking to his social media networking site Truth Social, Trump called on Congress to pass a federal standard governing oversight of artificial intelligence.
“Investment in AI is helping to make the US Economy the ‘hottest’ in the world — but overregulation by the States is threatening to undermine this growth engine,” Trump said.
He also warns that failure to do so would mean China surpassing the U.S in the AI race. Trump urged lawmakers to move the federal standard into a standalone bill or attach it to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“Put it in the NDAA, or pass a separate Bill, and nobody will ever be able to compete with America,” the President said.
