U.S. President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order inaugurating the “Genesis Mission,” a national initiative to harness AI and the full power of federal scientific data for transformative research and innovation.
Under the plan, the Department of Energy (DOE) will lead the effort, uniting its 17 national laboratories, supercomputers, and sprawling federal datasets to create the “American Science and Security Platform.”
The platform aims to deploy high-performance computing, AI modeling, simulation tools, and quantum computing capacity which could enable American scientists, universities and private industry to run simulations, automate research workflows, and test hypotheses at unprecedented scale.
The mission is expected to double the productivity and impact of U.S. science and engineering within a decade. It is designed to accelerate breakthroughs across energy, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, quantum science, critical materials, semiconductors, and national-security technologies.
The administration and DOE expect the initiative to bolster American technological leadership, reduce dependency on foreign adversaries, and open new frontiers in scientific discovery from clean energy and nuclear fusion to materials science and microelectronics.
