Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Executive Order to remove barriers that may hinder the United States’ dominance in the field of AI.
“To maintain this leadership, we must develop AI systems that are free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas. With the right Government policies, we can solidify our position as the global leader in AI and secure a brighter future for all Americans,” the executive order reads.
This order rescinds existing AI policies and directives that hinder American AI innovation, paving the way for the United States to take decisive action in maintaining global leadership in artificial intelligence.
Earlier this week, just on his first day in office, Trump revoked the Executive Order on AI signed by former President Joe Biden on October 30th, 2023.
Within 180 days of this order, the heads of various federal agencies are required to develop and submit an action plan to the President to implement the policies outlined.
During his election campaign, Trump pledged to introduce new AI regulations that prioritize free speech and human flourishing while avoiding overly stringent measures.
Last week, Trump also announced the decision to invest a massive $500 billion in AI through “Stargate,” a new company to be formed in partnership with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison.
