U.S. President Donald Trump has scrapped the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Emerging Technology Prioritization Framework, introduced last year to fast-track the adoption of technologies like artificial intelligence in the federal cloud, according to media reports.
This is part of Trump’s rescission of the Biden administration’s AI executive order signed in October 2023. Biden’s order mandated that developers of AI systems share the results of safety tests with the U.S. government, under the Defense Production Act, before public release.
The framework, which recently adopted a rolling application process, was designed to enable cloud service providers to seek prioritization for cloud services featuring emerging technologies within the FedRAMP authorization process.
The scrapping is part of the incoming Donald Trump administration’s broader agenda to reduce regulatory burdens on businesses and promote innovation. Recently, just on his first day in office, Trump scrapped around 80 executive orders signed by Joe Biden.
FedRAMP is a U.S. government program that standardizes security assessments, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services used by federal agencies.
