Earlier this month, President Trump issued an executive order titled “Sustaining Select Efforts to Strengthen the Nation’s Cybersecurity and Amending Executive Order 13694 and Executive Order 14144.”
This order updates certain initiatives from previous executive orders by Presidents Obama and Biden, emphasizing key cybersecurity priorities for the current administration.
It directs revisions to federal regulations and policies to enhance security in third-party software supply chains, quantum cryptography, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
“Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform cyber defense by rapidly identifying vulnerabilities, increasing the scale of threat detection techniques and automating cyber defense,” the White House said in a statement.
Additionally, it sharpens the focus of cybersecurity-related sanctions on foreign individuals. While the order adjusts some elements of prior cybersecurity directives, it largely maintains the existing framework and does not alter other cybersecurity executive orders.
Overall, it reflects both distinct policy shifts and continued alignment on fundamental cybersecurity principles across administrations.
