The U.S. Department of Defense has introduced a new “Agent Designer” tool on its GenAI.mil platform, enabling millions of employees to build customized AI assistants without requiring coding skills.
The tool integrates capabilities from Gemini, allowing approximately three million Defense Department personnel to design AI agents that automate tasks and streamline complex workflows across mission areas.
In a social media post, the Pentagon’s CTO office said the technology allows users to create assistants capable of performing multi-step tasks, ingesting diverse data sources, and being shared across teams for rapid deployment.
“All 3 million Department of War personnel now have the power to create their own custom AI assistants to automate tasks and streamline complex workflows, with absolutely no coding experience needed. These custom agents can perform multi-step tasks, ingest various data sources, and be shared with teams for immediate deployment,” the post reads.
The department further said operators could automatically generate after-action reports, analysts could synthesize Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) images into memos, and comptrollers could develop applications to analyze financial data.
The tool expands the capabilities of GenAI.mil, which has become the Defense Department’s primary generative AI platform since its launch in December as part of a broader push to accelerate AI adoption across military operations and administrative functions.
