The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has announced the government-wide expansion of USA Class, an AI-enabled tool designed to streamline the creation of federal position descriptions.
The tool will now be available at no additional cost to all federal agencies using USA Staffing, the government’s primary hiring platform.
The integration of USA Class into USA Staffing will help modernize the federal hiring process and enable agencies to hire talent faster.
The AI-powered tool has been trained on thousands of existing federal position descriptions and can quickly generate structured draft duties while assisting classifiers in aligning them with OPM standards.
According to OPM, the technology is intended to improve collaboration between hiring managers and HR classifiers, minimize repetitive work, and significantly shorten the time required to prepare position descriptions, a key step in federal recruitment.
“Hiring great talent starts with clearly defining the job, but too often that step takes longer than it should. By bringing USA Class to USA Staffing users government-wide, we’re using AI to cut unnecessary delays, reduce administrative burden, and help agencies move faster to hire the people they need to deliver for the American public,” OPM Director Scott Kupor said.
OPM said rollout of USA Class functionality, training, and implementation support for USA Staffing users will begin in early May.
