The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) recently unveiled its inaugural IT Roadmap for the Intelligence Community (IC). The document titled "Vision for the Intelligence Community (IC) Information Environment: An IT Roadmap" identifies key areas that will need significant investments in the next five years.

The areas include artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, and cybersecurity. ODNI revealed in a statement that over 100 technical leaders across the IC contributed to the development of the roadmap's recommendations, and all 18 intelligence elements unanimously endorsed this vision.

"The roadmap presents a unified vision for investments the IC must make to continue to provide the United States with unmatched decision advantage at a time of unprecedented technological change. Adversaries are not standing still and neither are we. The time is now for strategic and substantial investment in the core IT infrastructure of the IC,” Intelligence Community (IC) Chief Information Officer Dr. Adele Merritt, said.

Earlier this year, ODNI and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) announced a new collaboration to embrace innovative technologies aimed at bolstering national security.

“Formalizing this relationship is in direct support of DIU’s 3.0 strategic plan -  which includes working with partners across the Department to take advantage of opportunities to generate impact through shared best practices and enhanced teamwork,” said DIU Director, Doug Beck.

The collaboration will see DIU and ODNI utilize their expertise, resources, and networks to identify emerging technologies that have the potential to enhance intelligence gathering, analysis, and operational capabilities.
