The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is inviting public feedback on a new chatbot developed for its National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE).
Designed to help NCCoE staff easily access and summarize cybersecurity guidance, the internal-use tool leverages retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and large language model (LLM) technology.
“The NCCoE identified a potential application for a chatbot to support its mission and developed a secure, internal-use chatbot to assist NCCoE staff with discovering and summarizing cybersecurity guidelines tailored to specific audiences or use cases,” NIST stated.
The chatbot generates context-specific responses and includes page-level citations from NCCoE publications, improving guideline accessibility and clarity.
“The chatbot is currently designed to search NIST publications exclusively, enabling users to receive information that is aligned with the NCCoE’s guidelines and best practice documents,” NIST added.
Public comments on the project are open until midnight, August 4. NIST aims to refine the tool based on community feedback and expand its use across cybersecurity initiatives.
