CACI, Inc. has won a contract worth $2 billion from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to modernize its IT services.

The performance period will extend eight years with a 90-day phase-in period, followed by a base period, seven option periods, and a six-month extension period, NASA said in a media update.

The NCAPS award aims to implement a unified enterprise solution to standardize and centralize NASA’s IT services.

This encompasses IT systems maintenance, development of necessary new applications, streamlining duplicate efforts to enhance efficiency across NASA Centers, and additional related functions.

A report by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) released earlier this year emphasizes that NASA’s high-end computing (HEC) technologies require a comprehensive revamp to effectively compete with space research programs of other nations and maintain its leadership role.

The oversight body discovered that NASA’s supercomputing resources lack centralized management as a program or strategic service within the agency.

This fragmented oversight hampers NASA’s capacity to allocate resources efficiently, adjust to diverse mission requirements, and promptly respond to technological advancements.
