The Department of Defense’s (DOD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) has announced new partnerships with leading frontier AI companies to help address national security risks posed by rapidly evolving artificial intelligence technologies.
As a part of the partnership DOD is providing the companies with $200 million each. Companies that will receive the money include Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI.
This will allow the Department to tap into the advanced technology and expertise of leading U.S. frontier AI companies to build agentic AI workflows for a range of mission-critical applications.
These relationships aim to facilitate technical evaluations, red-teaming, and simulation of real-world national security scenarios. The goal is to enhance situational awareness, identify vulnerabilities, and guide policy frameworks around safe AI deployment.
“The adoption of AI is transforming the Department’s ability to support our warfighters and maintain strategic advantage over our adversaries. Leveraging commercially available solutions into an integrated capabilities approach will accelerate the use of advanced AI as part of our Joint mission essential tasks in our warfighting domain as well as intelligence, business, and enterprise information systems,” Chief Digital and AI Officer Dr. Doug Matty said.
