(US and Canada) Viam, the engineering platform for data, AI and automation, today announced a partnership with CompScience, the leading active workers’ compensation provider leveraging computer vision to identify and predict risks before they become claims. Together, the companies are pioneering the use of AI to provide insurance brokers with turnkey solutions for businesses to ensure the safety of their workplaces and avoid costly losses.
CompScience uses AI technology to analyze workplace video footage and detect unreported safety risks in workplaces of all kinds. Viam’s hardware-agnostic platform allows CompScience’s product to connect to existing camera systems without complex manual configuration, streamlining the end customer experience, speeding up deployment time, and enabling automatic detection.
For the 200+ brokers that CompScience works with, this provides a revolutionary product they can bring to their clients and use to drive business. CompScience’s continuous, real-time monitoring and AI-based risk analytics enable their broker customers to provide workplaces of all kinds — warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail environments — with the ability to quickly and systematically identify hazards. This can drive immediate intervention to prevent things like equipment usage, slip risks, and unsafe behavior, ensuring employee safety and preventing costly insurance claims.
“At Viam, we’re focused on removing the barriers companies face when it comes to integrating hardware and software,” said Viam Co-Founder and CEO Eliot Horowitz. “Our work with CompScience is a great example of how we bridge the gap between physical device infrastructure and AI to enable powerful real-time analysis.”
Viam’s platform helps companies add cutting-edge capabilities to existing systems and build new ones fast by integrating AI, data, and automation. The company was launched in 2020 by Eliot Horowitz, former co-founder and CTO of publicly traded database giant MongoDB. By integrating Viam’s technology, CompScience offers brokers an even faster and more scalable way of leveraging AI to protect workers, lower insurance premiums, and reduce the operational disruptions and revenue loss caused by workplace incidents.
“Integrating Viam’s platform has enabled us to offer our brokers a turnkey, high-impact solution,” said CompScience Founder and CEO Josh Butler. “This partnership allows us to scale that offering faster, helping brokers protect their clients’ workforces while unlocking longer-term value through reduced claims and premiums.”
This integration marks the first step in a partnership that can extend into numerous other areas. CompScience customers include Honda, Toyota, and DHL.
